Plastic is ubiquitous, affecting a range of stakeholders, public health and wellbeing as well as economic development. It may also be a significant vulnerability multiplier in key sectors and among those already poor and marginalized, including people living on or near coastlines. An analysis conducted by UNEP, the Coordinating Body of the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA) and the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), to be launched at the event, highlights initial findings and existing knowledge gaps in relation to the gender, human rights and economic dimensions of marine plastic litter.

This session will provide insights on the gender and human rights dimensions of marine plastic litter, and how consideration of this can contribute to fair, equitable and ethically sound action and sustainable outcomes in the longer term.
